Harrogate group to celebrate refugees contribution to British life in Refugee Week

A local charity that supports refugees who live in the Harrogate district is taking part in Refugee Week in a few days time.

As part of the annual UK-wide festival running from June 14-20, Harrogate District of Sanctuary is organising a new exhibition focused on famous refugees and how local refugees quickly becoming integrated into their new home.

To be held in the glass atrium of St Peter’s Church in Cambridge Street, the event will be visited by The Mayor and Mayoress of the Borough of Harrogate, Councillor Trevor Chapman and Mrs Janet Chapman, as part of Refugee Week which celebrates the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

The new exhibition will include creative work by local children and offer the chance to watch a short film, study some information sheets and talk to volunteers who work with Harrogate District of Sanctuary.

The exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm from Monday, June 14 to Saturday, June 19 and everyone is welcome.

Harrogate District of Sanctuary aims to raise awareness about the issues faced by refugees and asylum seekers, especially those fleeing war and persecution in their own countries.
