Sorry there have not been any posts on here for some time!
We had a great time last summer taking 8 of our families to Wensleydale for a weekend break! They had a wonderful time and everyone wants to go again so we are busy planning for that to happen at the end of July. See report attached.
We did have a summer newsletter but didn’t get round to posting…see below!
We continued to support the weekly Women’s group and hosting our monthly social gatherings. The finale was a great Children’s Christmas Party with a Children’s entertainer and a Santa’s Grotto. (Thanks to Harrogate Lions Club for supporting the party). Several of us attended the regional conference in Leeds where it was great to meet other ‘Sanctuary’ folks and swap ideas!
We are pleased to report that Harrogate’s second School of Sanctuary will soon be awarded it’s certificate! Congratulations to Springwater School.
We were successful in applying to NYCC for funding for our English at Home Project where each of the adult refugees has an individual tutor visiting for an hour or so a week to provide informal language practice to supplement what the Council deliver.
We are currently busy with plans for the coming year to include the visit to Wensleydale, the piano concert in March, a visit from John Sloan of Refugee Support to speak at our Open meeting in April, and of course writing our Annual report for 2018 ready for our AGM in March. We’re planning a Volunteer Induction Day in early February to try and get all our new and seasoned volunteers together for an update.
Our main upcoming event is the Piano Concert on 28th March. If you live near enough I hope you will come along and support Margaret, and HDS at what I am sure will be a wonderful concert!!
